We collect nothing. There is no server to collect it with.
Quiet Weather has no account, no analytics, no crash reporter, no advertising library, and no back end of ours anywhere in the path. The one thing that leaves your phone is a pair of coordinates, sent to weather services so they can tell you the weather at that point. This page explains exactly what that means.
What the app sends, and to whom
A forecast lives on somebody else's computer. To show you one, the app has to ask for it, and to ask for the right one it has to say where you are. That is the entire privacy story, and we would rather state it plainly than bury it.
What gets sent is two numbers — a latitude and a longitude. Not a name, not an account, not a device identifier, not an advertising ID. The app has none of those to send. Requests go directly from your phone to the weather services listed below; none of them passes through Echo House Labs, so there is nothing on our side to keep, sell, or lose.
§ 01Location
If you allow it, Quiet Weather reads your device's location so it can show the weather where you actually are. You can skip that entirely and type a place name instead — the app works fully either way, with no location permission at all.
Your chosen location and any places you save are stored on your device so the app opens where you left it. They are not backed up to us.
The app also asks in the background. So that a widget on your home screen is not stale, and so a rain warning arrives before the rain does, it refreshes on a schedule even when you have not opened it. That is a real trade — periodic background location use in exchange for a widget that is right — and it is worth knowing you are making it. Turning off the widgets and the notifications ends it.
§ 02Where requests go
Open-Meteo — forecasts, air quality, and climate history. Receives coordinates.
Environment and Climate Change Canada GeoMet — official weather alerts, radar imagery, and base map tiles. Receives coordinates and map tile addresses.
Your device's own geocoder — turning a typed place name into coordinates, and coordinates back into a place name. This is provided by your phone's operating system, not by us.
Tomorrow.io — optional map layers, contacted only if an API key has been configured in the build. No key ships in the public release, so in the app you install it is never contacted at all.
Each of these is governed by its own privacy policy. We send them nothing about you beyond the coordinates or place name needed to answer the question.
§ 03What stays on your phone
Your selected and saved locations, unit and appearance settings, notification choices, any trips or custom alert rules you create, and a cached copy of the most recent forecast so the app can open without waiting for the network. All of it lives in the app's own storage on your device. Uninstalling Quiet Weather removes it.
§ 04Notifications
Rain, frost and alert notifications, and the optional permanent lock-screen line, are all generated on your own device from a forecast it already has. There is no push server, and no message is sent to or from us to deliver them.
§ 05What the app does not do
No analytics. No telemetry. No crash reporting. No advertising SDK or ad network. No account, and no login. No AI profiling of you or your habits. No selling, renting, or sharing of anything, because there is nothing held to sell.
This is verifiable rather than merely claimed: the app's full dependency list is short, and none of it is an analytics or advertising library.
§ 06Weather alerts and the ECCC licence
Official alerts come from Environment and Climate Change Canada and are shown exactly as issued, word for word. The ECCC licence requires that their content and intent be preserved, and the app never rewrites, summarises, or re-rates them.
§ 07App stores
Quiet Weather is distributed through the app store on your device — Google Play today, and the Apple App Store if and when an iOS version ships. The store itself collects information about downloads and any purchases under its own privacy policy, which we neither control nor receive. We see aggregate install counts and whatever reviews you choose to leave.
§ 08Children
Quiet Weather is not directed at children and collects nothing that could identify anyone, of any age.
§ 09Your rights
There is nothing of yours on a server of ours to access, correct, export, or delete — because there is no server. Everything is on your device and under your control. Uninstalling the app, or clearing its data in your device's app settings, removes all of it immediately.
§ 10Changes
If this policy changes, the effective date at the top changes with it. Material changes will also be noted in the app's release notes rather than made quietly.
