Weather & safety disclaimer
Quiet Weather is a convenience, not a safety system. Never use it to make a decision where being wrong could hurt someone. For anything that matters — severe storms, floods, wildfire, road closures, whether to travel, whether to shelter — go to Environment and Climate Change Canada directly, listen to Alert Ready broadcasts, and follow your local emergency officials.
Official alerts shown in the app come from ECCC and are reproduced word for word. But an alert can only reach you if a chain of things works: your phone has signal and battery, notifications are on and not muted by the operating system, the background refresh actually ran, and the data service is up. Any link in that chain can fail, and one eventually will. A quiet phone is not evidence of a quiet sky.
Forecasts are predictions, and predictions are wrong. The app tries to be honest about that — it shows you when two models disagree rather than hiding it behind one confident number — but honest uncertainty is still uncertainty. Radar imagery, rain timing, frost warnings, and the outdoor activity readings are all estimates derived from third-party data we do not control and cannot verify.
We are a software studio, not a meteorological authority. We do not issue warnings, we do not guarantee that any alert will be delivered or delivered on time, and we are not responsible for what you decide to do with what the app shows you. Decisions about your safety are yours to make, with official sources.
§ 01Who we are
Quiet Weather is made by Echo House Labs, a one-person software studio in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Contact: nick@echohouselabs.com.
§ 02Your licence to use the app
You get a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use Quiet Weather on devices you control. You may not resell it, decompile it, or strip out its attribution to Environment and Climate Change Canada.
§ 03Your data
Your settings and saved places live on your device. We hold nothing and can retrieve nothing. See the privacy policy for exactly what leaves your phone and where it goes.
§ 04Weather data and attribution
Forecast data comes from Open-Meteo. Official alerts, radar and map tiles come from Environment and Climate Change Canada's open data services, used under their licence, which requires that alert content and intent be preserved exactly. Quiet Weather is not endorsed by, affiliated with, or operated by ECCC, and any error in the display of their data is ours rather than theirs.
§ 05Price
Quiet Weather is free, and official weather alerts will remain free permanently. If paid features are ever added, they will be additions rather than removals — nothing that works today will be put behind a payment later.
§ 06No warranties
The app is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, express or implied — including fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or uninterrupted availability. It depends on third-party data services that can be wrong, late, or offline, and on an operating system that may delay or drop background work.
§ 07Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, Echo House Labs is not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential loss arising from your use of the app, or from any failure of it to warn you of anything. Some jurisdictions do not allow these exclusions, in which case they apply only as far as they legally can.
§ 08Intellectual property
The Quiet Weather name, design, and code belong to Echo House Labs. Weather and alert data belong to their respective sources.
§ 09Changes to these terms
If these terms change, the effective date at the top changes with them. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept it; if you do not, uninstalling is the remedy.
§ 10Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Alberta and the federal laws of Canada that apply there.
